Late 20th century birdcage chandelier dressed in a mix of hand cut crystal in smokey brown, purple and clear glass. This piece has elegant proportions it would make an excellent centre piece. The toleware chandelier frame is gilt with gold paint and features floral details and holds eight lamps in total. The chandelier comes supplied with flex, chain, a ceiling rose and a chandelier hook plate. Chandelier requires SES lamps, these are not included.
The origin of birdcage chandeliers can be traced back to Europe, particularly to France during the 18th century. This style of chandelier was influenced by the ornate and elaborate designs of the Rococo period. The Rococo style, characterised by asymmetry, ornate decoration, and a focus on curves and natural forms, was prevalent in European art and design during the 18th century. A birdcage chandelier is a type of lighting fixture designed in the shape of a birdcage. This distinctive chandelier style often features an open framework resembling the structure of a birdcage, and it is typically used to hold and display light sources.
This chandelier has been fully restored and rewired. We recommend that this balloon chandelier is installed by an electrician and into a joist or a supporting noggin. To clean the chandelier dust the frame and glass components regularly with a soft cloth. The drops can then be wiped with a glass wipe or a cloth that has been sprayed with glass cleaner. A final wipe with a paper towel will give a polished finish.
