Antique Box Bench with Decorative Grain Paint

A charming antique pine box bench in very good condition, retaining its original decorative grain-painted finish. This traditional technique gave modest pine furniture the appearance of more costly hardwoods, with the panels here painted to evoke richly figured walnut veneers.

Today, the appeal lies in the artistry of the finish itself: lively patterns, beautifully faded colours and the character acquired over more than a century.

An inviting addition to a country kitchen or hallway, with a lift-up seat revealing useful storage beneath. Solid, clean and well preserved throughout.

Central Europe, circa 1890.
